Art in the Context of Being

Creating and selling artwork is a lot like performing, or at least I thought so until I was able to speak recently with an amazing circus performer.  She said that performing in front of audiences becomes like second nature, that it becomes like a job.  Aspects of the performance become like any other job.... I was really thrown by that and it took a few days to process this...

I guess I should delve a little further in explanation, this woman was a high trapeze artist 30 years ago.  She would fly and perform her act 60 feet above the crowd and twist at maddening speeds above the heads of the awed and amazed... and it was like any other job!!!  That surprised me, I thought that she would have had anxiety or been nervous about the display of her embarrassing bits, or nervous about the people performing with her, the equipment, or the audience itself... nope, it became mundane like any other job...

I don't know when creating and selling art will become mundane.  It is terrifying to display the work.  It is very relaxing to create the work, and it is difficult to learn the mechanisms of online retail and design.  This has no mark of the mundane for me yet, but I can see the possibility... as in creating the mini print options, after having already created the print options... redundant data entry... but still, I was nervous about adding a new product because I didn't want to charge too much, but I didn't want to cheapen the value of the original prints.

Bringing traffic to the website makes one very nervous as well considering all the people that do not know and love me in the world... they will say what they think and they will do what they want with the images... I have sold a few through the website now and feel a little more comfortable.  But by no means are the transactions mundane...

Even if my audience is one in a million, there are 7,200,000,000 people on the earth, that means that some where out there, there are 7,000 people that I can communicate clearly with and who will love my work!!  I guess tramping through the woods to find you all may get mundane, but believe me, when I find you I will be anything but bored in our discussion!!

Cheers all and thank you for stopping in!!
